RIP Google Reader, here are some alternatives

It was really a sad story that Google decided to close down Google Reader, RSS feed reader that works so great. I’ve been introduced to this product long time ago. It’s really a good service! I can read all my favorite blogs and news in one place, sync in web and applications. Google Reader is closing this July, I want this blog to remind one of my lovely product.

So for you guys who are fans of Google Reader, I would like to present you two alternatives. They are not exactly like Google Reader but they do work charmingly.

Feedly

Pros:

  • Seamlessly integrate your Google Reader data. Just login with your Google Account, that’s all.
  • Beautiful customizable interface
  • Has applications in Play Store and App Store
  • Very active developers that listen to users

Cons:

  • No web access, you need to use Chrome and install an app (they are building this feature) They have the web access feature done!
  • An application in Android is bit confused. Some buttons are clickable, but some cannot, need to expend the it to get in

The Old Reader

Pros:

  • Simply and similar interface to Google Reader
  • Web access!

Cons:

  • Difficult to transfer for internet rookies. Need to get .xml file from Reader and upload
  • No mobile applications yet

I’m using TOR now because I love to browse feeds everywhere but not in mobile! But I love that Feedly listens to users and try to get something new. I definitely get back and try when everything in Feedly is doing well!
